Terms & Conditions

Last updated August 23, 2026

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of WrittenBy — the website, apps, and related services (together, the “Service”) operated by WrittenBy (“WrittenBy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

1. The service

WrittenBy is a professional network built for people working on, or interested in, film and cinema projects — writers, directors, producers, actors, and other crew and creative professionals. The Service lets you build a professional profile, create and manage film projects, write and share screenplays, find and connect with collaborators, and follow activity from people and projects you care about.

WrittenBy is under active development. Features, design, and functionality may be added, changed, or removed at any time, including while the Service is in an early-access stage.

2. Accounts & eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to create a WrittenBy account. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

To use the Service you create an account with an email address, a username, a password, and basic profile information (such as your name and professional role). You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your profile reasonably up to date. Accounts are personal to you — you may not sell, transfer, or share your account with anyone else.

Professional verification. WrittenBy offers an optional verification process where you can request a verified badge for your professional role. Verification is based on information you submit (such as links to your IMDb page, professional website, or portfolio) and is reviewed manually by WrittenBy. Verification confirms that WrittenBy reviewed the information you provided — it is not a background check or a confirmation of your legal identity.

3. Your content

“Your Content” means everything you add to WrittenBy: your profile information, screenplays and script versions, project details, moodboard images, pitch deck content, project files, characters, references, project updates, discussion posts, feed posts and comments, direct messages, endorsements, and anything else you upload or write.

You keep ownership of Your Content. WrittenBy does not claim ownership over your screenplays, projects, or any other material you create or upload.

By posting Your Content, you grant WrittenBy a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, and display it solely as necessary to operate and provide the Service to you and the people you choose to share it with — for example, showing your project to collaborators you’ve granted access to, or displaying your profile to visitors according to your visibility settings. This license ends when you remove the content or delete your account, except for copies that may briefly remain in backups or that have already been shared with, or reasonably retained by, other users (for example, a collaborator who received access to a script version before you removed it).

You’re solely responsible for Your Content and for making sure you have the right to post it. Don’t post anything you don’t have the rights to, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights.

4. Intellectual property

Screenplays, treatments, pitch decks, and other creative works you share on WrittenBy remain your intellectual property (or that of their rightful owner). Sharing a project or script with collaborators through the Service does not transfer any ownership or rights in that work to WrittenBy or to those collaborators, beyond whatever access or usage you explicitly grant them.

The WrittenBy name, logo, and the Service’s look and feel are the property of WrittenBy and may not be used without our permission.

If you believe content on WrittenBy infringes your intellectual property rights, contact us with a description of the work, the material you believe infringes it, and its location on the Service, and we’ll investigate.

5. Projects, scripts & collaboration

When you create a project, you choose its visibility (for example, public, private, or unlisted) and, separately, the visibility of its script. Depending on your settings, script content may require an explicit access grant, or be reachable through an access request that you approve or decline. You control who you invite to a project, what role and permission level they have, and whether you accept collaboration or script-access requests from others.

These controls are tools to help you manage who sees your work — they are not a guarantee. Anyone you grant access to a project or script can, in principle, copy or share what they see, and WrittenBy cannot control what a collaborator does with content after you’ve given them access to it. Only invite people and accept requests from people you trust with your material.

Project positions, applications, and endorsements are provided as networking and discovery tools. WrittenBy does not vet, guarantee, or take responsibility for the outcome of any collaboration, engagement, or opportunity arranged through the Service.

6. Messaging & activity

The Service includes direct messaging between users, a feed for posts and comments, likes, follows, and notifications about activity relevant to you. Use these features respectfully and only to communicate for legitimate professional or networking purposes — not to spam, harass, or contact people who’ve asked not to be contacted.

7. Acceptable use

When using WrittenBy, you agree not to:

  • Infringe anyone else’s intellectual property, privacy, or other legal rights;
  • Harass, threaten, bully, or abuse other users;
  • Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation, role, or credentials;
  • Post spam, or content that is fraudulent, deceptive, or otherwise unlawful;
  • Attempt to circumvent a project’s or script’s access or visibility controls;
  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service without our written permission;
  • Upload malware or attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service; or
  • Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law.

8. Content moderation & enforcement

You can report content or accounts that you believe violate these Terms (for example, spam, harassment, inappropriate content, impersonation, or fake credentials), and you can block other users. Reports are reviewed by WrittenBy.

If we determine that Your Content or conduct violates these Terms, we may remove or restrict the content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate your account, at our discretion and, where practical, with notice to you.

9. Suspension & termination

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account deactivates your profile and removes it from other users’ view; see the Privacy Policy for how we handle your data after deletion.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, create risk or legal exposure for WrittenBy or other users, or if we discontinue the Service or a feature of it. Where reasonably possible, we’ll try to give you notice first.

10. Platform availability

We aim to keep WrittenBy available and reliable, but we don’t guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or continuous availability. The Service may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control, and features may change, be added, or be discontinued as the product evolves.

12. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WrittenBy will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, opportunities, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service — including any loss or unauthorized use of content you share with other users through the Service.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable local law requires otherwise. This section is provisional and subject to confirmation by qualified legal counsel before the Service is publicly launched.
